Arts Access announces A Series of Fortunate Events!

Raleigh, NC –To celebrate 34 years of making the arts in North Carolina inclusive of children and adults with disabilities, Arts Access announces A Series of Fortunate Events! This collection of talent showcases will feature artists with disabilities telling their own stories through visual art, music, film, literature, and theatre. The events will kick off on May 4th at Visual Art Exchange with a VIP preview of ULTRALIGHT, an exhibition featuring artists with disabilities who make work that challenges the stereotypes of living with disabilities. Additional events include a film screening, theatre showcase, house concert, and authors reading.

Arts Access is excited to announce the series’ Honorary Chair, Kristin Bernhardt

Cooper, First Lady of North Carolina. Kristin’s commitment to the arts and youth make her the perfect fit to chair the series. About her role as Honorary Chair, Kristin commented “I am happy to support an organization that provides access to the arts for everyone, the same access that my own daughters had.”

Kristin is an artist herself, having held acting roles with several of North Carolina’s

community theaters, including roles accompanied by her daughters. She has served on the boards of the North Carolina Arts Council and North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre, and is currently serving in her second term on the board of Raleigh Little Theatre.

Arts Access is North Carolina's only statewide non-profit dedicated solely to making the arts accessible to children and adults with disabilities. Founded in 1983, the organization highlights the talents of people living with disabilities. The Series of Fortunate Events will showcase the talent of 30+ artists with disabilities throughout the month of May.

All artist information, event details, tickets, and sponsorship opportunities are available at www.fortunateevents.org or by calling 919-833-9919.
