Carolina Women’s Club, a philanthropic and social club in Charlotte with more than 200 members, has awarded a grant of $9,300 to ANSWER Scholarship, Inc.

Established in 2006, ANSWER provides college scholarships to Charlotte-area moms to earn a four-year college degree in the field of their choice or an associate degree in nursing. Recipients must be raising school-age children, show demonstrated need for the scholarship, and be earning their first college degree.

A non-profit organization, ANSWER has funded scholarships for more than 40 moms since its inception. Each ANSWER recipient also receives a volunteer mentor for support and guidance on balancing family, work and school. More than a third of ANSWER recipients have gone on to earn master’s degrees in their fields.

“Carolina Women’s Club selected ANSWER because they are helping women who are working hard to be independent,” says Bearle Chamblee, a founder of the Women's Club. “The moms are demonstrating to their children that hard work reaps benefits for years to come. Through college scholarships and mentoring, ANSWER is providing the support that women need to complete their education, get good jobs, and give their families a better future.”
