RALEIGH, N.C. (September 30, 2011) ─ Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina (bbb.org) thanks Coastal Federal Credit Union (coastal24.com) for its continued support in helping consumers protect their identity. Coastal is serving as presenting sponsor of the “Secure Your ID” Day event on Saturday, October 22, 2011. The local shredding event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Coastal’s headquarters on St. Albans Drive in Raleigh.

Coastal has long been committed to active involvement in the communities it serves. This is the seventh “Secure Your ID” Day event the organization has sponsored and the fourth time it will host the event at its headquarters.

“The Coastal team strives to help improve the lives of our members, their families and those in the community,” says Sandra Glasson, vice president of member and community relations for Coastal. “We remain true to our founding principal of ‘people helping people,’ and BBB’s initiative is an excellent way to help Triangle residents protect themselves.”

During the event, local shredding partners will provide free, on-site document shredding. Participants are encouraged to bring up to three boxes or bags of documents that have been removed from binders. BBB and Coastal will provide tips and resources to help consumers protect their identity.

“Coastal has built a legacy of civic participation, and we are thankful for their continued support,” says Toby Barfield, president and CEO of BBB serving Eastern North Carolina. “Identity theft remains a serious issue in America. Working together with Coastal, we hope to raise consumer awareness of its severity.”

BBB has hosted its “Secure Your ID” Day events locally since April 2008. During this time, more than 115,000 pounds of sensitive documents have been safely destroyed.
