What’s scarier: Being chased by a pack of hungry zombie high schoolers or donating blood? Find out when the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) teams up with Carowinds to host the Stick or Treat Blood Drive Friday, Sept. 30, from 3-8 p.m. As a thank you, the first 250 presenting donors will receive a FREE admission ticket to SCarowinds (while supplies last).

“Halloween is one of our favorite times at Carowinds,” said Laresa Thompson, Public Relations Manager of Carowinds. “The Stick or Treat Blood Drive is a fun and unique way to help bring awareness to the importance of giving blood in order to help save the lives of people right here in our community.”

“Partnering with Carowinds, an iconic institution here in the Carolinas, provides us an ideal opportunity to reach out to our community and encourage donors to give back to this lifesaving cause,” said Martin Grable, president and CEO of CBCC. “It is only though the dedication of our volunteer blood donors, community partners and CBCC staff that we are able to provide for patients in our local hospitals each day.”

CBCC will bring its Community Bloodmobiles to Carowinds on Friday, Sept. 30. Registration will be held on site. All presenting donors will also receive a FREE Stick or Treat T-shirt as a thank you for rolling up their sleeves and giving blood.

Blood donation requirements:

• Donors must be at least 16 years old. All 16- and 17-year-olds must have a signed parental consent form to donate.

• Donors must weigh at least 120 pounds.

• Donors must bring an officially issued photo ID.

• Due to recent FDA guidance, all blood centers in the U.S. must test each donation for Zika virus. Because the test is still in the research phase, a consent form must be signed by all donors. For additional requirements and information, visit www.cbcc.us.

SCarowinds, Carowinds’ annual Halloween haunt attraction, will run on select weekends in September and October from 7 p.m. to midnight. Guests can check out Halloween-themed shows, rides and haunts, or try their luck in one of the haunted mazes – like Zombie High.
