Grant Proposals of up to $25,000 Now Being Accepted by the North Carolina Humanities Council

Bookmark and Share CHARLOTTE, NC - May 30, 2017

The North Carolina Humanities Council is now accepting Large grant proposals for public humanities projects of extended scope that explore North Carolina's rich diversity, traditions and cultures. Applicants may request a maximum of $25,000. This category requires submission of a draft proposal; the draft deadline is June 30, 2017.

Since 1972, The North Carolina Humanities Council has worked to make the public humanities a cornerstone of life, by providing grants, awards, and specialty programs that engage people of different backgrounds and geographic locations in understanding their shared human experiences.

Similar to the Council’s Planning and Grassroots grants, the $25,000 Large grant category was established as a means to help support community projects and extend the reach of humanities initiatives.

In years past, the Council has funded Large grant projects like “RiddleFest 2014: Railroad & Work Songs of the Mountains,” an annual festival honoring native North Carolinian Lesley Riddle and his role in developing early American country music and “Standing Together- From Isolation to War: The American Indian Stories of the Battles and Repercussion of War,” a handmade, traveling quilt exhibition illustrating the stories of Native American veterans.

For consideration, applicants must demonstrate that their program will encourage dialogue and stimulate audiences to think critically about different values and ideas.

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, a public humanities lecture/discussion series, performance/discussions, exhibit/discussions, educator workshops, film/video production and Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War veterans programs.

Applicants may request a minimum of $2,000 and a maximum of $25,000. Draft proposals must be submitted by June 30, 2017.
