North Carolina Theatre, the region’s premier nonprofit professional regional theatre, today announced a cast change for Margaret Edson’s Wit, opening April 29th. Kate Goehring will step into the lead role of “Vivian Bearing, Ph.D.” replacing Judy McLane, who has withdrawn from the production due to personal reasons.

North Carolina audiences have previously enjoyed Kate Goehring’s performances in shows including Wit at Triad Stage, Radiunt Abundunt, Underneath the Lintel, The Glass Menagerie, The Blonde, The Brunette and the Vengeful Redhead, The Little Foxes. She was seen on the National Tour of Angels in America (LA Pride, Miami Carbonell Awards), and appeared in off-Broadway and regional performances including Heartbreak House (Intiman), Orpheus Descending, Dancing at Lughnasa (Arena), How I Learned to Drive, Lost in Yonkers (AZ Theater Company), Collected Stories (A Contemporary Theater, Footlights Award), Machinal, St. Joan, and The Syringa Tree (KC Repertory). Kate also starred in the world premieres of The Cherry Orchard (McCarter/Emily Mann adaptation); Slavs! (Actors Theatre of Louisville); and The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls (Alliance Theatre, Bass Award/Ensemble), and has been featured in film and TV roles on BBC, Comedy Central, PBS (Chicago Emmy nomination), and in ER, Gossip Girl, and all three Law & Orders.

Under the Artistic Direction of Casey Hushion, NC Theatre’s production of Wit is directed by Kate Galvin, and will feature Tony Award®-winner Daisy Eagan (Susie Monahan, R.N., B.S.N.). The thought-provoking story will run in the AJ Fletcher Opera Theater at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh, April 29-May 8, 2016.

Wit is a one-act play written by American playwright Margaret Edson, which won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1999 New York Drama Critics’ Circle award for “Best New Play.” Edson used her work experience in a hospital as part of the inspiration for her play.
