RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 14, 2016 -- Kroger’s 14 North Carolina stores are taking action across the east coast to provide support and supplies to the communities impacted by Hurricane Matthew. Kroger will be donating over $60,000 worth of goods to hurricane-impacted areas within North Carolina, spanning the Triangle and surrounding counties.

Kroger has teamed up with the American Red Cross of Eastern North Carolina to provide the supplies needed to bring relief to the people and areas affected by the storm. Thus far, the store is providing a tractor-trailer truck full of snacks and supplies valued at $25,000 to be hand-delivered as far as New Bern, North Carolina. In addition, $20,000 in gift cards will be donated to various areas to aid with relief efforts, and $2,000 in water will be donated to Gleaning for the World, a nonprofit disaster relief company. The water will be donated to families who were hit the hardest during the hurricane.

Kroger’s customers will also be able to contribute to the relief efforts. Shoppers can make cash donations at coin boxes found at each register in all local Kroger stores as well as stores across the Mid-Atlantic region located in Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio. The coin boxes will be available through early November, and donations expect to reach $15,000.
