RALEIGH, N.C., June 28, 2017 – Lynch Mykins, a leading mid-Atlantic structural engineering firm formerly known as Stroud Pence, has earned a Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) certification from the State of North Carolina. A business can undergo the rigorous application and vetting process to become HUB certified if at least 51 percent is owned and operated by an individual who is one or more of the following: female, Black, Hispanic, Asian-American, American Indian, disabled, or socially or economically disadvantaged.

Former Stroud Pence executives Anna Lynch, PE and David Mykins, PE acquired the firm from its founders, Roger Stroud and Ed Pence, in April 2017. Serving as CEO, Lynch retains 51 percent of the business and will be based in Lynch Mykins’ Raleigh headquarters. As president, Mykins will be based in the Virginia Beach, Virginia office.

As part of this certification, Lynch Mykins is now listed in the Statewide Uniform Certification (SWUC) program database, which is widely used by state agencies, universities, community colleges, local schools, local governments and institutions, and the public to locate HUB vendors for goods, services and construction.

Established in 1999, the HUB office serves to increase the amount of goods and services that state agencies acquire from HUB vendors by providing them with resources and working to eliminate barriers that otherwise reduce their participation in the marketplace and in state government procurement and contracting.

Lynch joined Stroud Pence in 2003 and was named Raleigh managing director in 2011. As managing director, she introduced a renewed vision and strategic plan, which has resulted in the firms’ significant growth. During her career, she has led prominent projects across the Southeast. She was the structural engineer of record for the polar bear exhibit expansion at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, North Carolina, the East Carolina University Health Sciences Student Center in Greenville, North Carolina and a new 70,000-square-foot dormitory at Duke University.

“The field of engineering is traditionally very male-dominated, and earning this HUB certification is an important step forward for Lynch Mykins’ sustainable growth,” said Lynch. “I am proud to be both a woman engineer and a woman business owner, and I look forward to using the opportunity this certification provides to bolster the Lynch Mykins portfolio with an increasingly diverse range of projects.”
