Pretty In Pink Foundation’s 10th Anniversary breast cancer luncheon “Beyond the Ribbon™ …A Breast Cancer Journey” raised $18,000 to help eliminate financial barriers and provide resources to North Carolina breast cancer patients.

Raleigh, NC -- Over 180 breast cancer survivors, support partners and members of the medical community attended Pretty In Pink Foundation’s luncheon at the Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The benefit luncheon, the first of its kind in the Raleigh area, raised $18,000.

Honored at the event were 30-year breast cancer survivor, activist and keynote speaker Emory Austin and Dr. Lisa Tolnitch, a breast cancer surgeon with Duke Cancer Institute and founder of Pretty In Pink Foundation.

“I’m very happy to see how far our organization has come. This is not about me, but about the number of women diagnosed with breast cancer we are able to assist. When I started Pretty In Pink Foundation in 2004, my goal was to assist 10 women in Wake County in one year. With the need in our community, as you can see, we have grown,” said Dr. Tolnitch. The nonprofit now serves over 2,300 patients in 89 NC counties with offices in Raleigh, Wilmington and Charlotte.

Known as a front runner in community for having a one stop program of referrals, education, targeted outreach program and statewide network of physicians, the foundation plans to have its next signature luncheon September, 2015 as a kickoff to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Penny Lauricella, MHA and Executive Director at Pretty In Pink Foundation offered, “Our supporters are essential to realizing our mission of providing financial assistance to breast cancer patients with treatment and surgical needs. Without the continued support, through financial donations, of our sponsors and partners, our bigger vision of having a point of presence in every state by 2020, wouldn't be possible. Our thanks go out to Wake Radiology, Hoover & Hoover Auditors, Feel the Difference, Fulcrum Strategies, Rouse Norton CPA, Erin Stanley Silpada Jewelry, The Greer Group, Jayne Byrd and Tolnitch Surgical Associates for their support.”

The foundation welcomes volunteers and supporters to help forward their mission. For more information and read the stories of their champions visit PrettyInPinkFoundation.org
