New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), the Triangle’s Train, begins its new season in April celebrating the science of trains on Sunday, April 12, and craft beer and local wine on Saturday, April 25. Both ride days will include activities in the rail yard, food trucks and train excursions in covered, open-air passenger cars.

On April 12, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., NHVR will offer train rides, free science demonstrations and kids’ activities in conjunction with the North Carolina Science Festival, which showcases science, technology, engineering and mathematics at venues across the state. Trains will depart at 11 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. Ticket prices range from $7-$15.

Visitors to the rail yard will learn about the science behind steam and diesel locomotives and swing a maul or drive a spike to help discover the science of tracks. The G Scale Model Garden Railroad will be operating and train safety will be explored.

On Saturday, April 25, from 2-10 p.m., NHVR brings back its popular Brew ‘n’ Choo event. Brüeprint Brewing Company will be pouring its most popular beers and Cloer Family Vineyards will serve its wines for tastings and by the glass. Local bluegrass musicians Drybread Road and Alice Zincone & the Stationeers will play throughout the evening. Food trucks will offer special menus and a bonfire will add to the evening’s ambiance.

Bladder-friendly, 40-minute train excursions will depart every hour from 4-7 p.m. All visitors must purchase a train ticket to be admitted onto the grounds. Costs are $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and $10 for children who must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Beer and food will be sold separately and are not included in the train excursion fee. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the construction of a new climate-controlled restroom facility for the rail yard.

“Our new season has a lot to offer during the month of April. From the NC Science Festival for families to Brew ‘n’ Choo for craft beer, wine and bluegrass music aficionados, we cover the gamut,” says NHVR President Chris Tilley.

The all-volunteer, non-profit tourist railroad is located in Bonsal, N.C., 30 minutes south of downtown Raleigh off of U.S. 1, Exit 89. Visitors can view the full 2015 ride schedule and purchase tickets online at www.TriangleTrain.com. Any unsold tickets will be available at the rail yard ticket booth one hour before the first ride.
