Oct. 6 ArtWalk Marks Return of Monthly Art Event to Wake Forest

A monthly art event returns to historic downtown Wake Forest. ArtWalk debuts on Friday, Oct. 6, 6 - 9 p.m., and features the work of local artists displayed in the shops on or near South White Street, known as the arts and entertainment district of Wake Forest.

Participating artists will be working on their art, discussing it and doing demonstrations for visitors who are encouraged to eat at downtown restaurants and then stroll among the stores open late during ArtWalk, scheduled for the first Friday of each month.

“We’re bringing back a dedicated night that showcases local art and artists in Wake Forest,” said Albert Barneto, who helped organize ArtWalk.

“I’m not taking credit for it--this is an effort that downtown businesses and merchants have come together to help organize and promote,” explained Barneto, owner of Wake Forest Coffee Company. His upstairs space is used by artists who lease their work area/gallery through a percentage of the sale of their art.

For 15 years, Wake Forest Downtown, Inc, planned and hosted a monthly Art After Hours event. Looking to draw a new and different crowd to historic downtown, the event turned into the popular Friday Night on White music venue now run by the Town of Wake Forest.

“Many of our patrons missed the monthly Friday night art events, so the downtown store owners and businesses are bringing them back on the first Fridays in October, November and December,” Barneto said.

Businesses participating in the Oct. 6 ArtWalk include The Cotton Company, For Old Time's Sake and Home Décor, North Carolina General Store, Ollie’s, Page 158 Books, Robin's Nest, Southern Suds and Gift, Sugar Magnolia, Wake Forest Arts and Frame and The Artist's Loft @Wake Forest Coffee Company.

A Facebook page @ArtWalkWakeForest will list details and additional information about each first Friday ArtWalk event.
