Project Management Training Program Helps Deepen Impact for Rise Against Hunger

Bookmark and Share Raleigh - June 27, 2017 -

A grant from the PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) is helping Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) build its organizational capacity through project management. The grant will help the organization increase its effectiveness and efficiency in its food packaging and distribution models in fulfillment of its mission to end world hunger.

The $56,875 grant delivered project management fundamentals training to two dozen Rise Against Hunger professionals. The organization will also develop a project management toolkit that will be available to all staff to further its capacity building efforts. Doing so will better ensure the increased impact of Rise Against Hunger’s donor dollars.

“By implementing project management techniques throughout all our programs, we can be more efficient, more effective and have a greater impact,” said Joseph Brumley, learning manager for Rise Against Hunger.

Lance Morrison, Rise Against Hunger program monitoring and evaluation associate and project management training program graduate, said, “I thought of all the ways I could apply what I learned to the benefit of my team by taking a more precise approach to our work. We are an ambitious group; we’re passionate, but that can be a double-edged sword. We set lofty goals and idealistic deadlines, but there are only so many of us and so little time.”

“Mitigating food insecurity demands that nonprofits develop project management capabilities to meet the needs of vulnerable populations worldwide,” said Michael DePrisco, PMIEF Chief Operating Officer and PMI Vice President, Global Membership and Chapters. “Our collaboration with Rise Against Hunger helps fulfill our mission to leverage project management for social good by making a difference in people’s lives and in an organization committed to doing the same.”
