Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount will once again be home to the “Reaching for the Green” Golf Tournament. The Fifth Annual event will be teeing up on Saturday, Oct. 25 to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter (LFANC).

Hosted by Regional Materials Recovery, Inc. (RMR), registration for “Reaching for the Green” kicks off at 10:30AM followed by a Shotgun Start at 12:30PM. The cost is $150 per player and $500 per foursome. All players will receive lunch, a tournament T-shirt, beverages and a goody bag. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place and various tournament contests.

“Reaching for the Green” is held in honor of Jackie Ward, the wife of former RMR president Ted Ward, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2007. This tournament has raised more than $179,000 during the past four years and has become one of the top fundraisers benefiting LFANC.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the community together to enjoy a great day of golf while honoring my mom, Jackie [Ward], and the millions of people worldwide suffering from lupus,” said Jeremy Ward, warehouse manager at RMR and tournament organizer. “We are truly humbled by the generosity and giving spirit of everyone involved in this event. Together, we are making a difference in taking a swing against lupus.”

For sponsorship opportunities or to register for the event, contact Jeremy Ward at 252-567-1640 or at jeward@rmrnc.com.

“We greatly appreciate Regional Materials Recovery, the Ward Family and the Rocky Mount community for going above and beyond to support our mission,” said Christine John-Fuller, President and CEO of LFANC. “In addition to helping solve the cruel mystery of lupus, events like this help fund research, programs and support services for the estimated 45,000 people living with lupus throughout North Carolina.”

About Lupus:

Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body. It is difficult to diagnose, hard to live with, and a challenge to treat. Lupus is a cruel mystery because it is hidden from view and undefined, has a range of symptoms, hits out of nowhere, and has no known cause and no known cure. Its health effects can range from a skin rash to a heart attack. Lupus is debilitating and destructive, and can be fatal, yet research on lupus remains underfunded relative to its scope and devastation.
