Local Coffee Roaster, Raleigh Coffee Company creates 19 person Ironman triathlon team to benefit Alexander YMCA children’s campaign

Raleigh, NC – As part of its commitment to bringing awareness and funding local needs, Raleigh Coffee Company, Raleigh’s newest coffee roastery, has committed to raising $10,000 by June 2, 2013 to support local kids in need of summer activities that would not otherwise be available to them.

RCC has joined forces with 19 influential athletes around the country to participate in the Ironman Raleigh 70.3 to fundraise for the “We Build People” Campaign at Raleigh’s Alexander YMCA. We Build People is designed to provide scholarships for local children to attend summer day camps, after school programs, youth sports, and teen leadership programs.

“We aim to serve the community by using the common commodity of coffee and our art of roasting it and sharing it.” says RCC owner and Raleigh native, Joseph Bland. “Our goal, aside from the race itself, is for our 19 teammates to make an epic impression on the Raleigh community long after we cross the finish line.”

By raising $10,000, the Raleigh Coffee Company team will enable over 60 local children to attend multi-sport camps this summer. “Most of our young people lose ground academically, because their families lack the resources to provide educational experiences and support.” says We Build People Campaign Chair, Steve Byrd. “If these children were not at camp, most of them would be home alone or hanging out in unsupervised neighborhoods.”

Bland goes on to say, “We are asking the community to help by supporting our team and be a benefactor to these kids who need to attend summer camps in the Raleigh area.”

How you can help: Go to http://ironman.raleighcoffeecompany.com/ to help the RCC’s team achieve their goal of $10,000. RCC will send each sponsor who donates over $25 a free bag of coffee. In addition, RCC will donate a portion of every bag of coffee sold until June 2, 2013.
