Bookmark and Share Raleigh - September 14, 2012

The Wake Technical Community College Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome a new member. Edward D. Paradise, appointed by Governor Bev Perdue, was sworn in by NC Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby on Tuesday, August 21, as the newest trustee on Wake Tech’s 12-member board.

Paradise is Vice President of Development for Cisco’s Global Government Solutions Group and Site Executive for Cisco’s Research Triangle Park campus. Before joining Cisco in 1993, Paradise served as a senior manager at IBM. He holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Hartford in Connecticut and a master of science in electrical engineering from Syracuse University in New York. He chairs the board of directors for NC FIRST Robotics and serves on the executive committee of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Paradise also serves on the advisory boards of Duke University’s Master of Engineering Management Program, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and Triangle Family Services. He and his wife live in Chapel Hill.

“We welcome Mr. Paradise to our board with great excitement,” says Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen C. Scott. “He brings technological expertise and an important grasp of education and commerce on a global scale. We are indeed fortunate to have his guidance at this point in our history.”

The Wake Tech Board of Trustees also reappointed Jim Perry as chair, Harvey Montague as vice-chair, and Dr. Stephen Scott as secretary. Montague was sworn in for another four-year term. He was first appointed in 1996 and is the current board’s longest-serving trustee.

Wake Tech is served by 12 trustees, all of whom are appointed: four by the governor, four by the Wake County Board of Commissioners, and four by the Wake County Board of Education. An ex-officio student representative (usually the president of Wake Tech’s Student Government Association) also serves on the board. Trustees establish policy for Wake Tech, approve the annual budget, and serve as advocates for the college and its services. Trustees also select the college president when that need arises.
