RALEIGH, N.C.—WakeEd Partnership (WakeEd), a nonprofit organization committed to improving public education in Wake County, welcomed two new members to its board of directors. The two business leaders were approved during WakeEd’s annual board meeting this summer. These new members are:

• Jason Christie, Market President & Publisher, Triangle Business Journal

• Leonor Clavijo, President, LC Kreators

Together the new board members bring corporate and entrepreneurial experience that will aid WakeEd in diversifying its audience to improve the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). As WakeEd board members, Christie and Clavijo will help WakeEd achieve its vision of creating schools where every graduate is prepared to succeed in a global economy.

Each new member brings a unique skillset that will aid WakeEd in its overall mission. For the last decade, Clavijo has worked with the Latino immigrant community in North Carolina. She served as the North Carolina Hispanic Chamber’s Executive Director from 2010 to March of 2016. Leonor holds a B.A. in Journalism and Communication and Marketing from the University Autonoma in Colombia, South America and a Master’s Degree in Arts from Duke University.

Jason Christie has more than 24 years of experience in the media industry, the last seven of which have been with Advance Publications, parent company of American City Business Journals & Conde Nast Magazines. In 1995, Christie designed, developed & launched the nation’s first daily online newspaper, derived from a weekly print publication.

WakeEd’s board is led by Chairman Don Esposito and Chair-Elect Scot McAlexander. Esposito serves as General Counsel for UNC Rex Healthcare and will lead the organization through FY 2017.

"WakeEd is committed to having leaders that reflect our community and these high quality leaders will further our impact on the Wake County Public School System," WakeEd President Steve Parrott said. "I’m excited to see how students and teachers benefit from these great organizations that are focused on WCPSS."
