William Peace University, (http://www.peace.edu/) a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce that Megan Mansfield ’15 has been selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-American Volleyball Third-Team. Mansfield, who was also a USA South Second-team All-Conference selection for the second year in a row, was one of only 18 Division III players from around the country to make the cut. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classrooms. Nominees must have been a starter or an important reserve for his/her team, while maintaining at least a 3.3 GPA or higher in the classroom. Mansfield majors in Business Administration and is one of six recipients with a 4.0 GPA.

In two years at WPU, Mansfield has established herself as one of the Pacer volleyball greats. She will graduate fifth in kills (712), third in kills per set (3.04), and second in attack percentage (.240). Mansfield also finishes her career third in total blocks (151) and third in blocks per set (.65). Her 877 total points is the third most in program history and her 3.75 points per set is the second highest mark.

Mansfield put up especially impressive numbers as a junior leading the Pacers to a program record 22 wins. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player and received the 2014 Jeannie Grey Bierce Most Outstanding Athlete Award setting season records for kills (403), kills per set (3.36), and points (482). Mansfield also earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors.

During a two-year stint at Pitt Community College, Mansfield was a First-Team All-Region selection and was the Region X Player of the year as a freshman. In 2013, she was also the Pitt CC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

“I am excited and honored to be chosen. Volleyball is a true team sport,” Mansfield said. “This wouldn't have been possible without my awesome teammates from the past two years and a great coaching staff.”

“You can’t say enough about Megan Mansfield. Looking at how many D-III volleyball players there are, our Megan being honored like this is a great achievement, one I know she has worked very hard for,” said Kevin Daniels, William Peace University Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women’s Volleyball Coach. “I always look for three qualities in my athletes: a good player, a good student, and a good person; we found that in Megan and this accolade just proves that. She is a great representation of herself, her family, this program and this institution. We are very lucky to have had her here for two seasons and look forward to how bright her star will shine in the future. She is the true definition of the D-III model, a true student-athlete.”

“We’re extremely proud of Megan for her work both on and off the court. She is a great example of the type of student we have here at WPU,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “We know that Megan will build on this achievement and continue this great success when she takes the next step in her life and career. We’re truly proud of her.”
