MyComputerCareer Hosts Oct. 20 Event Celebrating Veterans

As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting military members as they transition into civilian life, MyComputerCareer is hosting a celebration Saturday, Oct. 20, at its Charlotte campus to bring together local businesses, community members and celebrity guests. For every individual at the event, MyComputerCareer will donate $5 to a military nonprofit of the person’s choice.

Special guests who will be onsite and available for photos and autographs include:

• Lifetime Network’s reality-TV show, Military Makeover:

o Producers will accept nominations for the next veteran deserving of a home revamp on the show.

o Jennifer Bertrand, the show’s lead interior designer will meet-and-greet with fans. Bertrand came to fame after winning Design Star on HGTV and has since won America over with her art-inspired design aesthetic.

• Actor Michael Steger, who is best known from the CW Network’s reboot of Beverly Hills 90210. Other roles include co-starring in the Disney Channel original movie “The Cheetah Girls,” a featured role on the CBS series “Criminal Minds” and a regular role on the FOX’s "The Winner."

• Jerick Johnson, the marquee driver of the POW-MIA Freedom racecar and son of U.S. Army veteran Jack Johnson. The Freedom Car, which will also be onsite at the Oct. 20 event, is a Super Pro Late Model stock car competing in asphalt short track races to raise awareness about the more than 82,000 U.S. soldiers still listed as Missing In Action, including many Prisoners of War dating back to World War II.

• K9s for Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs trained to help military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disability, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma. Organization representatives (both human and canine) will be onsite.

• Megan Leavey, star of the current Netflix hit documentary by the same name that chronicles her time saving lives as a corporal in the Marine K-9 Unit in Iraq as well as her efforts to protect retired service dogs.

“We want to celebrate the veterans who have served our country, and recognize some really moving individuals who inspire us by helping others make the often difficult transition from military life to civilian life,” said Tony Galati, CEO of MyComputerCareer. “Our veteran students and employees make us a stronger organization because of the experience they bring to our campuses and the service they have provided to our country. It’s our honor to recognize and support them every way we can.”

MyComputerCareer offers I.T. education in a program designed specifically around its students’ success. Graduates leave with in-demand professional certifications and lifetime career services including job search, resume writing, interview skills training and career placement support. As part of its mission, the organization is also dedicated to helping veterans with additional support services.

As part of this, the Charlotte campus was recently approved by the United States Veterans Administration to train veterans under the GI-Bill and Vocational Rehab funding. The organization has also dedicated thousands of volunteer hours to military causes, prepared more than 1,000 care packages for active duty military personnel and is an annual sponsor of the POW-MIA Freedom Car. More information about the organization’s efforts to support U.S. military can be found at www.mycomputercareer.edu/it-training-military-benefits.

The Oct. 20 event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at the MyComputerCareer Charlotte campus, located at 3701 Arco Corporate Drive, #500, Charlotte, NC 28273. There are no costs to attend, RSVPs are not necessary.
