NEW SENIOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMING TO SOUTHEAST CHARLOTTE

The Housing Partnership was recently awarded federal tax credits to support the construction of affordable senior units near an amenity-rich Southeast Charlotte location. The proposed 103-unit, mixed-income Nolley Court Senior Apartments will be built on a 3.69-acre parcel within walking distance of the Galleria Commons retail complex at Monroe Road and Sardis Road North. The development, which will serve seniors 55 and older, comes at a time of dire need for senior housing in Charlotte, especially in South Charlotte neighborhoods.

“Many of our City’s seniors have a hard time finding affordable housing options that cater to their needs,” said Julie Porter, president of The Housing Partnership. “We are excited to be awarded tax credits in this very competitive funding environment as we continue to forge partnerships that allow us to provide high-quality affordable housing for seniors.”

The mixed-income development will include 26 units for households at or below 30 percent of Charlotte’s area median income (AMI) or $17,800 for a family of two; 64 units for households at or below 60 percent of AMI or $35,580 for a family of two and 13 market-rate units. Nolley Seniors will boast an upscale multipurpose community area, fitness room and computer lab for resident use.

These apartments will also be located within a one-mile radius of other amenities including grocery, pharmacy, theaters, dining and transit access. Nearby bus routes 27 and 65x give additional access to retail, medical services, and the main uptown Charlotte Transit Station.
