The 11th Annual 24 Hours of Booty presented by Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte has set a new fundraising record with more than $1.4 million raised to date. The previous record for the Charlotte event was $1.25 million.

“To have another record-breaking year is truly amazing and we owe our fundraising success to our amazing riders and supporters,” said Basil Lyberg, executive director of 24 Hours of Booty, which runs the Official 24-Hour Cycling Event of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the premier national 24-hour road cycling charity event in the country.

On July 27-28, more than 1,400 registered participants (including 250 reboot riders) from 24 different states weathered the summer heat and rode in Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood along the famed “Booty Loop” to help stop cancer in its tracks. To prepare for the anticipated hot weather, 24 Hours of Booty implemented a heat management plan, which included: an additional hydration station on the course; an unlimited supply of water provided by Diamond Springs; increased Powerade, Vitamin Water and ice; a misting station; and a color-coded communication system to notify participants of course conditions.

When not riding, participants hung out in “Bootyville” (a.k.a. Myers Park High School) for camping, food and fun. The event also included entertainment and a "Survivor Hour" breakfast to honor cancer survivors with presentations by Dr. Jeffrey Kneisl, medical director of surgical services at Levine Cancer Institute and Harry Jones, Mecklenburg County Manager. 24 Hours of Booty was supported by more than 300 volunteers and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department representatives stationed along the course at all times.

Lyberg added, “On behalf of our organization, I want to thank Myers Park High School, the Myers Park neighborhood, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and our tremendous volunteers, riders, cancer survivors, supporters and spectators who go above and beyond in collaborating with us and in making 24 Hours of Booty a memorable and fantastic event. Together, we are making a difference in the fight against cancer, including several local cutting-edge cancer programs and research.”
