$1.37 Million Raised to Date at 24-Hour Charity Cycling Event to Fight Cancer

24 Hours of Booty, Inc. announced that its 12th Annual 24 Hours of Booty presented by Levine Cancer Institute has raised $1.37 million bringing the total amount raised since the event’s inception to more than $10 million.

“A huge thanks to our riders and supporters for their amazing fundraising efforts and helping us achieve this success,” said Basil Lyberg, executive director of 24 Hours of Booty. “I am always in awe of the creativity and efforts that teams and individuals come up with in getting donations. Their passion is contagious and we are truly grateful for all that they do to support our mission.”

On July 26-27, 1,200 registered participants from 24 different states rode in Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood along the famed “Booty Loop” to help stop cancer in its tracks. When not riding, participants hung out in “Bootyville” (a.k.a. Myers Park Traditional School) for camping, food and fun. The event also included entertainment and a "Survivor Celebration" breakfast to honor cancer survivors with a panel discussion including Dr. Chasse Bailey-Dorton with Levine Cancer Institute, Moira Quinn of Charlotte CENTER CITY Partners and Colleen O’Farrell with the LIVESTRONG Foundation. Kelly Franson with WBTV News 3 served as the moderator. The celebration also included a graduation ceremony for members of the Carolinas Cancer Wellness Program that is funded by 24 Hours of Booty.

The event was supported by 400 volunteers and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department representatives stationed along the course at all times.

Top fund-raiser award winners included:

• Top Team: Team Bank of America – $117,972

• Top Fundraiser: Steve Kravitz, Charlotte Sharks - $84,390

• First Runner Up Individual Fundraiser: Sandy Mazoway, Team Bank of America - $30,300

• Second Runner Up Individual Fundraiser: Lester Osborn, Team Cancer Stinks - $24,735

• First Runner Up Fundraising Team: Charlotte Sharks – $107,725

• Second Runner Up Fundraising Teams: Team Reeb – $67,472

• Spirit of Booty Award: Carrie Futral, a long-time 24 Hours of Booty volunteer, rider, fundraiser and a three-time cancer survivor

• Highest fundraising average: Team AmWins - $4,370 per rider

The next two events include: the Fifth Annual 24 Hours of Booty of Columbia, Md. at the Gateway Business Park “Booty Loop” on Saturday, Aug. 24 – Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 and the Fourth Annual 24 Hours of Booty of Atlanta at the Sandy Springs “Booty Loop” on Saturday, Oct. 5 – Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.
