New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), the Triangle’s Train, will be hosting its penultimate Brew ‘n’ Choo event of the 2015 season on Saturday, Aug. 29. Featuring craft beer, local wine, pizza, sweet treats, live bands and four train excursions throughout the evening, the activities take place in the NHVR rail yard located 30 minutes southwest of Raleigh.

The Brew ‘n’ Choo Pizza Party is a fundraising event that benefits the restoration of the historic Cliffside 110 steam engine that NHVR acquired in 2013.

Fortnight Brewing Company will pour its most popular beers for tastings and $5 pints, and Iron Gate Vineyards will serve white and red wines for tastings and by the glass. Local musicians Three Jack Jenny (3-6 p.m.) and Last Band Standing (7-10 p.m.) will provide musical entertainment for the evening.

A selection of pizza, salad and sandwiches will be available for purchase from zpizza, and County Line Sweets food truck will serve its popular cannolis, among other Italian desserts.

Bladder-friendly, 40-minute train excursions will depart every hour from 4-7 p.m. Tickets for the fundraiser cost $12 for adults, $11 for seniors (60+) and $10 for children (ages 2-12) who must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Food and drink are not included in the train excursion fee.

“We’re an all-volunteer, tourist railroad and it makes us happy that our Brew ‘n’ Choo fundraising event represents a local destination where people can do something different while having fun,” says NHVR President Chris Tilley.

Tickets can be purchased online prior to the event at www.TriangleTrain.com. Remaining tickets will be available in the rail yard ticket booth when gates open at 2 p.m. on August 29. It is recommended that visitors arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their train departure time.

Other upcoming ride days include Grandparent’s Day on Sept. 13, a 10 a.m. Diesel Excursion on Sept. 25, and the season’s final Brew n’ Choo on Sept. 26, featuring a live theatre performance in the rail yard along with beer, wine and a food truck. Halloween Track or Treat rides take place the last two Saturdays in October and Holiday Santa Trains depart the first two weekends in December.
