Band Together NC, a Triangle-area nonprofit that uses live music to raise funds and awareness for other local nonprofits, is excited to announce the hiring of Matt Strickland to the position of executive director, coinciding with the organization’s 10th anniversary.

Strickland brings an extensive background in the nonprofit world, including a thirteen-year history in leadership roles at the YMCA. Most recently, he served as Y Guides senior director and led the largest YMCA family program in the world – one with more than 13,000 participants annually.

“I am impressed by how successful Band Together has been over the last ten years, which is due to great leadership and a dedicated and talented volunteer corps,” said Strickland. “We all get to work together for a common cause, listen to some great music, raise quite a bit of money, and in the process, have a whole lot of fun. I am privileged and honored to work with this team, and excited to see where the future leads.”

As executive director, Strickland will oversee the overall implementation of Band Together’s day-to-day activities as well as serve as a strategic leader in meeting long-term goals. He will also help lead fundraising efforts on behalf of nonprofit partners such as Urban Ministries of Wake County, Band Together’s nonprofit partner for 2012.

Strickland received his Bachelor’s degree in sociology from North Carolina State University. He was previously named the News & Observer’s Tar Heel of the Week. He also serves on the Advisory Board and Board of Trustees for YMCA Guides and is a past volunteer at Brown Bag Ministries and Interact of Wake County.

“Band Together has seen well-managed growth over the last ten years, raising nearly $1.5 million for local nonprofits as an all-volunteer organization. With the tremendous growth over the last few years and a donation this year of $482,000 to Alliance Medical Ministry, we are ready for the next step in our life cycle,” said Danny Rosin, president and co-founder of Band Together. “Matt’s role as executive director will be critical to helping us grow Band Together and continue to serve so many deserving nonprofits in the Triangle.”
