Raleigh, NC-October, 2011- Kerr Drug, a pioneer of community pharmacy based clinical services, is continuing its unique outreach to patients at the NC State Fair with the opening of a General Store at the center of the fairgrounds. Kerr Drug’s General Store will carry basic drug store items that fairgoers often forget and are in high demand, including sun tan lotion, headache relief medicine, antacids and first aid supplies. Kerr Drug is also continuing as the Exclusive Provider of Flu Shots of the NC State Fair. Kerr Drug’s immunizing pharmacists will provide flu shots to individuals 14 years of age and older from Kerr Drug’s two locations at the Fairgrounds.

“The NC State Fair shows off the best traditions of North Carolina and Kerr Drug, with our headquarters in Raleigh and our pharmacies across the state, is proud to be the operator of the Fair’s General Store as well as be the Exclusive Provider of Flu Shots of the NC State Fair,” says Anthony “Tony” Civello, CEO of Kerr Drug. Our pharmacists will help keep fairgoers healthy by delivering flu shots at our two fair locations as well as staffing the General Store."

Kerr Drug is opening its General Store in response to requests from fairgoers and fair workers for basic drug store items. The General Store is also located in the center of the fairgrounds near the Waterfall. All items in the General Store are for sale at retail prices and cash and credit cards will be accepted. The General Store will be open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.

Kerr Drug has provided flu shots at the North Carolina State Fair for several years and each year the number of patients taking advantage of the immunization program has increased. Flu shots are available at Kerr Drug’s Fair Booth in the center of the fairgrounds near the Waterfall and beside the Village of Yesteryear. Flu shots will be available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily during the Fair’s 10-day run.

Kerr Drug bills most major insurance plans for flu shots at the fair. Credit cards will be accepted.

This year, the Centers for Disease Control is recommending everyone six months and older get a flu shot because the vaccine offers the best protection against the flu. Kerr Drug launched its flu shot campaign in August and will continue to meet the demand for flu vaccines at its stores, local workplaces, and at special events such as fair. The 2011-2012 version of the flu vaccine is similar to last year’s version and will cover seasonal flu and H1N1.
