Bookmark and Share New Castle, VA - July 22, 2014 -

Camp Easter Seals UCP, a recreational and therapeutic camp for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, will offer three weekend respite sessions in the fall and spring thanks to a $19,500 grant from KOVAR, a Virginia Knights of Columbus charity assisting citizens with intellectual disabilities. This generous grant will cover the cost for 20 individuals to attend each weekend respite session.

Nestled in the mountains of New Castle, VA, Camp Easter Seals UCP offers children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy fun and challenging indoor and outdoor camp activities in a supportive and cooperative atmosphere. From campfire sing-a-longs and talent shows to canoeing, nature walks, swimming, zip-lining, rock climbing and arts and crafts, the Easter Seals UCP camping program provides the excitement and activity of a traditional summer camp program in a beautiful, accessible setting.

“KOVAR has been so supportive of Camp Easter Seals UCP,” said Alex Barge, camp director. “This generous grant will allow 60 campers with intellectual disabilities enjoy a weekend of traditional camp experiences in an environment that can accommodate their needs. For many of these campers, this will be their first camp experience, which is very special.”

Applications for the fall 2014 weekend respite camp are available online at CampEasterSealsUCP.com. Financial assistance forms are also available online.

Camp Easter Seals UCP is accredited by the American Camp Association and more than 400 individuals and families enjoy Camp Easter Seals UCP each year. With the belief that all children and adults with disabilities should have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities, the accessible camp facility can accommodate campers with a wide range of special needs.
