Celebration at Koka Booth Amphitheatre Includes Mayor, Local Business Leaders

Despite threats of rain, more than 200 VIPs, partners, advertisers and local business leaders came out to Koka Booth Amphitheatre on the evening of June 19 to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of Cary Magazine.

The setting of the outdoor amphitheatre was appropriate, as it was at a performance at that venue more than 10 years ago where S&A Cherokee Principal Bill Zadeits had his epiphany. After realizing that Cary lacked a glossy lifestyle magazine that reflected the growing, diverse population, Zadeits helped the communications company launch its first issue in January 2004.

In the ensuing decade, the magazine has grown to become Western Wake County’s leading lifestyle magazine and website, and has profiled hundreds of local residents and businesses. The magazine’s annual Maggy Awards has become a favorite way for Western Wake County residents to recognize their favorite people, places, businesses and institutions.

Invited guests enjoyed food and drink from local vendors, live music, and a silent auction that raised more than $1,500 for Save A Life, a suicide awareness and prevention program selected as the Cary Magazine Gives Back charity partner for 2014.

Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht read a proclamation recognizing the tenth anniversary of Cary Magazine and proclaiming June 19 as Cary Magazine Day. Cary Chamber President Howard Johnson and other businesses leaders mingled and networked during the event.

Zadeits and S&A Cherokee Founder and Principal Ron Smith thanked the attendees, and Editors Emily Uhland and Nancy Pardue also relayed their gratitude.

“We want to thank all of our readers, partners, and advertisers for their support through the years,” said Zadeits after the event. “We think the magazine is bigger and better than ever, and our current tenth anniversary issue even looks forward to what Cary can expect in the next ten years.”
