The Kay Yow Cancer Fund and NC State Alumni Association invite the Triangle community to view a personal collection of wolf statues collected by former NC State University women’s basketball head coach, Kay Yow. The 24 statues on display are a unique testament to Coach Yow’s passion for the beloved NC State mascot and her unwavering support for the Wolfpack community. The collection is housed at the Park Alumni Center at 2450 Alumni Drive in Raleigh and fans can visit this holiday destination Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December 23.

“Coach Yow’s contagious school spirit is still felt on NC State’s campus, and we are excited to work with the Alumni Association to introduce a new generation of students to her legacy through this unique collection,” said Susan Donohoe, executive director, Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Coach Yow, a pillar of the NC State community, had an enduring commitment to the university and the Raleigh area. Though she was a nationally recognized two-time Olympic gold medal coach, Coach Yow’s heart always remained in her home state. In her 38 years as head coach at the collegiate level, Coach Yow was one of only six Division I head women’s basketball coaches to achieve 700 career victories. She guided her squads to 20 out of 27 NCAA Tournaments, 11 Sweet 16 appearances and a trip to the Women’s Final Four in 1998.

“The NC State community remains inspired by Coach Yow’s enthusiasm for the university and its student-athletes, as well as the courage she showed during her battle against breast cancer,” said Benny Suggs, executive director, NC State Alumni Association. “We encourage Wolfpack faithful to stop by and enjoy this unforgettable tribute to our beloved mascot.”

Fans who stop by the wolf collection are encouraged to take a photo with their favorite statue and share with the @KayYowFund on Twitter.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the NC State Alumni Association came together for this campaign in commemoration of Coach Yow and to showcase her love for the Wolfpack. Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and battled the disease until 2009. In December 2007, she founded the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, an organization committed to finding a cure in the fight against women’s cancers. Today, the Fund continues to raise money for scientific research and assists the underserved community.
