Community Blood Center of the Carolinas Awards $7,000 in Scholarships to Area Students

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) has awarded seven $1,000 scholarships to area students through its Sixth Annual “Students Saving Summer” scholarship program.

Throughout the summer, area high school and college students partnered with CBCC to hold summertime blood drives to help meet the needs of local patients. The following students had the top producing blood drives of the summer and will receive a $1,000 scholarship from CBCC:

• Kellee Payne of Lake Norman

Attends Lake Norman High School and plans to attend Mitchell Community College

• Matigan Simpson of Charlotte

Attends Charlotte Latin School

• Aimee Patterson of Mount Pleasant

Attends Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

• Madison Sigmon of Hickory

Attends Wilkes Community College and plans to attend Appalachian State University

• Janay Lindsey of Lilesville

Attends Anson High School

• Savannah Weaver of Shelby

Attends Crest High School

• Holly Pennell of Midland

Attends Central Cabarrus High School and plans to attend Methodist University

“Congratulations to the seven students who hosted the top producing blood drives and received a scholarship from the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas,” said Kim Jones, Director of Recruitment and Retention for Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. “We are grateful to all the students who participated in this year’s ‘Students Saving Summer’ program and everyone who supports local patients by hosting community blood drives during the critical summer and winter months, when blood donations traditionally decrease.”

In addition to the “Students Saving Summer” scholarship program, CBCC offers other scholarship and grant opportunities for local students and schools throughout the year, including a “Holiday Hero” scholarship opportunity for this holiday season. Since 2009, CBCC has awarded more than 300 scholarships and grants.
