Community Blood Center of the Carolinas Yields 48,850 Pounds of Food for Second Harvest Food Bank

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas’ (CBCC) wrapped up its Fifth Annual ‘Pints for Pounds’ campaign by donating 48,850 pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.

"Many thanks to the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and all their amazing blood donors and sponsors for going above and beyond in supporting our mission to eliminate hunger,” said Kay Carter, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “This partnership demonstrates how working together to impact our community can truly make a difference in the lives of others."

During the months of January and February, CBCC donated seven pounds of food for every pint of blood donated. Since the ‘Pints for Pounds’ campaign began in 2009, CBCC has been able to contribute 231,384 pounds of food to help feed the hungry in the community.

“Together, with our blood donors and sponsors, we made every pint count in serving our community and supporting the vital work of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina,” said Martin Grable, president and CEO of CBCC. “I want to thank everyone who came out, especially with this recent bad weather, in order to help save local lives and feed those in need throughout our community.”
