Community Workforce Solutions Awarded Waste Management Grant

Bookmark and Share Raleigh, NC - March 30, 2011 -

Community Workforce Solutions, Inc. (CWS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment, announced that they have been awarded a grant from Wake County Solid Waste Management. The grant, part of the Commercial Waste Reduction Grant Program, will fund improvements to CWS’ sustainability practices.

CWS formed a “green team” in 2010 to establish internal energy efficiency and sustainability goals. The grant will fund a recycling and education program, including the purchase of collection containers for recycling office paper, bottles, plastics and newspapers. The agency will also establish a composting program for food scraps and biodegradable waste that will be used in their community garden program.

“We are excited to be a part of the grant program,” said Cheri Howell, assistant director of Community Workforce Solutions. “This partnership will allow us to further our goal of increasing the amount of material we recycle. In addition, the opportunity to provide education about recycling and composting will result in a larger and longer lasting impact on our wider community. We are proud to do our part to become a more environmentally conscious organization.”
