Music fans of all kinds, get excited and mark your calendars for a charity concert you don’t want to miss! Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced the legendary, iconic pop/soul duo Daryl Hall & John Oates as their headline for this year’s main event on May 3 at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, benefitting Communities In Schools of Wake County and Durham (CIS).

The legendary American pop/soul fusion duo began in the 1970s and continues to make their impact on all music from boy band harmonies, to neo-soul to rap-rock fusion. The Philadelphia-bred musicians have sold more albums than any other duo in music history, with 20 million albums and over 80 million records sold as of 2012. With 34 chart hits, such as “You Make My Dreams Come True”, “Kiss on My List”, “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” “Sara Smile” and more, they have a broad following in the U.S. and internationally.

Most recently both Daryl Hall and John Oates have released solo projects. Daryl Hall has a multi-award-winning monthly web series, Live from Daryl’s House. As a duo they released their first box set, Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall & John Oates. The box set has a total of 4 CDs containing 74 tracks, 16 of them previously unreleased. They have paved the way for contemporary artists, and continue to be a living legend of the music industry.

Also appearing on May 3 as special guest is Robert Randolph & The Family Band, bringing a distinctive mix of rock, funk, and rhythm & blues. Randolph has earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s “100 Great Guitarists of All Time” list and the band is well-known for its tireless touring and unforgettable performances at such festivals as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

This year Band Together is raising the bar, making this charity concert bigger and better than ever before. Band Together’s Main Event – the largest charitable music event in the Southeast – is moving to Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, the Triangle-Area’s largest outdoor music venue.

Music as a Platform for Social Change

In 2012, Band Together NC’s Board of Directors chose for the first time two nonprofit organizations as their 2014 recipients, Communities In Schools of Wake County and Community In Schools of Durham. Both organizations share a common mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. And this year, Band Together aims to surpass all of its previous events, with a goal of raising at least $1 million in proceeds for the two organizations.

Through individual and corporate donations, Band Together has raised nearly $3 million for local nonprofits since its arrival onto the scene in 2001. Major contributors have included Cargill, S&A Cherokee, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Bank of America, Duke Realty Corporation, PNC, Lincoln Theatre, Synergy Commercial Advisors, RPG Solutions, Brand Fuel, Trisure, CapTrust, Prometheus, Hosted Solutions and Manning, Fulton & Skinner, PA. Sponsorships begin at the $500 level and are still available.

Tickets for the event range from $49 (in advance) for general seating/Upper House Reserved to premium Gold Circle seating for $95. Tickets will be on sale starting at 10:00 a.m., March 1 through Ticketmaster.com.
