Bookmark and Share Durham, NC - March 03, 2011 -

Food Lion at 2121 TW Alexander Drive in Durham is hosting a fundraiser for Easter Seals UCP North Carolina & Virginia on Saturday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature fun-filled activities for the entire family.

The Durham Police Department will be hosting an Ident-a-Kid booth where children can enjoy face painting and sand art, and there will be basketball shootouts for all participants. Also, Anytime Fitness will demonstrate exercise techniques, and Food Lion store and district managers have bravely volunteered to be a part of a pie-throwing activity. The fun doesn’t stop there. Local car enthusiasts will be hosting an auto show, and there will be a drawing for prizes that have been donated by Food Lion vendors. Hungry visitors can also chow down at a hot dog stand. Representatives from Easter Seals UCP will spread awareness about the many services the organization offers to individuals and families managing disabilities and mental health challenges.

This special local fundraiser is being held in conjunction with Food Lion’s 20th Anniversary Shop&Care program, which began Feb. 9 and concludes March 8. During the Shop&Care program, shoppers at Food Lion, Bloom, Reid’s and Bottom Dollar Food stores in 11 Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states can purchase specially-marked Shop&Care products to support Easter Seals, a national nonprofit that helps children, families and adults with disabilities address life’s challenges and achieve personal goals. Since 1991, the Food Lion family of banners has raised more than $25 million to support Easter Seals.
