Economic Development Attorney Christopher Kouri Joins Nexsen Pruet in Charlotte

Experienced economic development attorney Christopher Kouri has joined Nexsen Pruet in Charlotte. The move strengthens the law firm’s Economic Development Group, which includes the President of the NC Economic Development Association, Ernie Pearson, and SC Economic Developers’ Association Board Member Tushar Chikhliker as well as two-time Director of the SC Department of Revenue Burnie Maybank and the Chairman of the Santee Cooper Board, Leighton Lord.

Kouri has a broad background representing domestic and international companies looking to expand. He is well versed in incentive negotiations and has advised a number of domestic and international companies in public and private financing, and state and local economic incentive packages. He has also helped companies navigate regulatory and permitting requirements and site selection and real estate acquisition.

In addition to his economic development practice, Kouri represents clients in mergers and acquisitions, complex contract agreements, venture capital, corporate governance, and entity formations. He also advises companies in government affairs concerns and has helped several clients win significant public contracts, navigate state and local tax issues, and structure partnerships for improvements in public infrastructure.

Having spent six years as the General Counsel of the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kouri is particularly experienced in the motorsports sector. He also has a deep understanding of the manufacturing, construction, food-sourcing, advertising, travel and tourism, telecommunications, web-based start-ups, grocery store, higher education, and nonprofit industries.

Kouri was recently named among the 2015 list of The Best Lawyers in America in the category of Corporate Law. He earned an undergraduate degree from Yale University, a graduate degree from Duke University, and a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
