Thanks to a country and bluegrass concert fund raiser, more homeless children will be able to attend a special summer day camp program.

Frenzel Properties, a residential real estate firm serving the greater Charlotte area, held a benefit concert with country and bluegrass band Simpler Times on Friday, May 11 to raise money for A Child’s Place’s My Place summer day camp program. More than 100 people attended the concert at Andrew Blair’s, bringing financial contributions totaling $2000 and more than $400 worth of camp supplies, including swim goggles, flip flops and towels.

Supported through community donations, A Child’s Place’s My Place summer day camp is an eight week opportunity for rising first through sixth grade students. When the academic year comes to a close, homeless children lose their daily structure and the food provided at school. The My Place summer day camp provides these students with a safe, fun and educational environment for the summer and allows them to take a break from family and situational challenges they must deal with on a daily basis and just be children, enjoy the summer, and understand the importance of academic success.

“Our firm has partnered with A Child’s Place for the past two years and donates a portion of all home sale commissions to support the non-profit - currently helping over 3,200 homeless children in the Charlotte area,” said Kelly Frenzel, owner and broker for Frenzel Properties. “With summer fast approaching and the financial support needed for the My Place summer day camp program, we saw an opportunity to do something even bigger than just raising money. We saw an opportunity to also collect needed supplies and raise more awareness about A Child’s Place.
