Get Ready for the Glenwood Down and Derby

Bookmark and Share Raleigh, NC - August 28, 2015

Saturday, October 10, 2015 marks the return of the original soapbox derby down Glenwood Avenue in downtown Raleigh. In 1938, Sir Walter Chevrolet co-sponsored the first soapbox derby race, with the winner moving on to represent Raleigh in the national finals. Returning as a Presenting Sponsor, Sir Walter Chevrolet, in conjunction with the Glenwood South Neighborhood Collaborative, are proud to announce the Glenwood Down and Derby.

Racers will use locally-sourced gravity to propel their derby cars down four blocks of Glenwood South in hopes of being crowned this year’s Down and Derby winner! Trophies will be given for a myriad of categories including Derby Champion plus many more. Many area restaurants, businesses, and shops will have specials for race goers, and vendors along the race track and plan to offer food, retail items, and Down and Derby race swag. Sir Walter Chevrolet will have amazing vintage and race cars on display for all to view and will present the derby winner with their trophy at the end of the race.

Come join us as we celebrate the Down and Derby on Saturday, October 10th from 10am to 5pm. Youth races start at 11am while the adult races begin at 2pm.
