Horack Talley is pleased to announce the appointment of firm litigation attorney John W. Bowers for Superior Court Judge in Mecklenburg County. This position was recently opened by the retirement of H. William Constangy, NC Resident Superior Court Judge, Judicial District 26.

With a law practice dedicated to commercial litigation, appellate law, and employment litigation, Bowers is also a founding council member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section and was a member of its Appellate Rules Committee from 2003 to 2013. He previously served on the Mecklenburg County Bar board of directors of the Young Lawyers Section, and was co-chair for the Swearing-In Ceremony for five years.

Horack Talley Managing Attorney Smithy Curry says of Bowers’ appointment, “While we will miss John at the firm, he will be a tremendous benefit to the community. John will be an excellent judge.”

Bowers will run as an incumbent in the November election for the same seat to which he’s been appointed. The appointment lasts until December 31. The winner of the election will take the seat for an 8-year term, beginning January 2015.

Prior to joining Horack Talley, Bowers clerked for the Honorable John W. Webb, Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
