LORD Corporation, a global leader in highly reliable adhesives, coatings, motion management devices and sensing technologies, has partnered with the North Carolina State University Department of Chemistry for the second annual LORD Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship, with the addition of an Outstanding Presentation Award for graduating seniors. These annual awards are tied to a semester-long research project in which teams of students use primary literature sources to investigate a topic selected by NC State Department of Chemistry faculty and LORD scientists.

The partnership presents a unique opportunity to expand students’ understanding of fundamental chemistry and its industrial relevance. At the end of the semester, student teams will deliver a presentation on their findings to a panel of LORD scientists, NC State faculty and graduate students. The LORD Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship will fund one undergraduate student, who is selected for his or her excellence in researching and presenting their topic. These funds support 10 weeks of summer research with a faculty member in NC State’s Department of Chemistry.

“We are excited to be partnering with LORD,” said Dr. Morteza Khaledi, professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry at NC State. “Our collective goal is to encourage interaction between undergraduate students and industrial partners, as well as to sharpen students’ communication skills.”

“We believe this is a wonderful way to build relationships with our local universities and help mold future technologists,” said Lane Miller, vice president of global technology at LORD. “We look forward to participating in this fellowship for many years to come.”
