Gregg Thompson is the North Carolina State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s largest small-business advocacy group. He will discuss current and future state and federal legislative developments that can affect small businesses. Gregg will also highlight the NFIB’s programs, communications and services to help small businesses prosper in North Carolina.

Thompson, a native North Carolinian, has a unique blend of expertise in both government and small business. He served in Governor Jim Martin’s administration, and was elected at age 27 to the North Carolina House of Representatives where he complete five terms. Subsequently, Thompson served as senior Budget and Policy advisor to the Speaker of the House, and then later as the Director of the Division of Research, Policy and Planning with the North Carolina Department of Labor.

In addition to his vast experience in the federal sector, Thompson is also an entrepreneur. He and his wife, Nancy, own Thompson Group Inc., which operates two small retail businesses. Thompson also grows Christmas trees in his hometown of Spruce Pine. He served as interim Executive Director of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce, as well as on their Board of Directors for six years.

“We are thrilled to have Gregg speak with us about the latest state and federal legislature affecting small businesses,” said Chambers. “His varied experiences as State Director of the NFIB, working in government administration, and being a small business owner himself lend a wealth of knowledge that can greatly benefit business owners.”
