The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter (LFANC) is hosting its “2016 Lupus Empowerment Workshop Series” in Wilmington on Tuesday, July 19.

The workshop in Wilmington is scheduled for 6:30-8:30PM. The seminar will be held at Lifepoint Church located at 3534 South College Road in Wilmington (28412). Guy Fiocco, MD, NHRMC Physician Group, will be presenting “Old Standby’s and New Options on the Horizon (for treatment).”

In this session, attendees will learn about proper treatment of lupus to help minimize symptoms, reduce inflammation and pain, and stop the development of serious organ damage. While many classes of drugs exist for the treatment of lupus, only a few are approved specifically for lupus by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Attendees will also learn about current treatment methods and new up-and-coming options.

“Our educational seminars enable us to give the 45,000 individuals who are living with lupus in North Carolina the opportunity to feel empowered to take charge of their health,” said Christine John-Fuller, President & CEO of LFANC. “We appreciate the incredible support of our presenters and volunteers who play a vital role in furthering our mission and in helping make life better for those affected by lupus.”

The “2016 Lupus Empowerment Workshop Series” is a six-city series of educational workshops that will provide individuals affected by lupus with methods for not only living, but also thriving. The seminars offer information on different topics from subject matter experts. The remaining two will take place on Aug. 20 in Charlotte and Raleigh.

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required for the Wilmington workshop by Saturday, July 16. For questions, call 877-849-8271 or email info@lupusnc.org. For more information about the “2016 Lupus Empowerment Series” and to sign up, visit www.lupusnc.org.

About Lupus:

Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body. It is difficult to diagnose, hard to live with, and a challenge to treat. Lupus is a cruel mystery because it is hidden from view and undefined, has a range of symptoms, hits out of nowhere, and has no known cause and no known cure. Its health effects can range from a skin rash to a heart attack. Lupus is debilitating and destructive, and can be fatal, yet research on lupus remains underfunded relative to its scope and devastation.
