The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter (LFANC) will be hosting its “2015 Lupus Empowerment Workshops” in Winston-Salem and Wilmington on Saturday, July 25.

The two-part workshop in Winston-Salem will take place from 10:00AM-1:00PM at Forsyth Technical Community College-West Campus Auditorium located at 1300 Bolton Street in Winston-Salem (27103). April Marshall, RN, CCRC, of Danville Orthopedic Clinic will present “Clinical Trials: What You Need To Know.” Part 2 will include a presentation by LFANC President & CEO, Christine John-Fuller on “Doctor-Patient Communication.”

The two-part workshop in Wilmington will run from 10:00AM-1:00PM at the Derick GS Davis Center at Maides Park located at 1101 Manly Avenue in Wilmington (28405). Dr. Gregory Schimizzi with Carolina Arthritis Associates will present Part 1 “Lupus and the Musculoskeletal System.” Part 2 will feature a presentation by LFANC Patient Services Manager, Ally Hunter on “Doctor-Patient Communication.”

“These educational seminars are a wonderful way for us to give the 45,000 individuals in North Carolina who are living with lupus the opportunity to feel empowered to take charge of their health,” said Christine John-Fuller, President & CEO of LFANC. “We couldn’t do this without the amazing support of our presenters and volunteers who play a vital role in supporting our mission and in helping make life better for those affected by lupus.”

The “2015 Lupus Empowerment Series” is an eight-city series of educational workshops that will provide individuals affected by lupus with methods for not only living, but also thriving. The seminars will offer information on two different topics and participants will learn from both subject matter experts and a panel of individuals living with lupus. The remaining four will take place on August 8 in Greensboro and Greenville and on Sept. 12 in Asheville and Fayetteville.
