Cask Ale Festival in Atlanta Hosted by Sweetwater Brewery

Cary, N.C., Nov. 3, 2014 – Drew Schenck, owner of RallyPoint Sport Grill in Cary, is more than an award-winning restaurateur. He’s also a beer connoisseur and home brewer who will be participating in the 5th Annual Brew Your Cask Off Cask Ale Festival hosted by Sweetwater Brewery Nov. 8 in Atlanta.

For the event, Schenck will present his unique “Old Bull Bourbon Stout,” a smoky stout made with Columbus Hops. The festival will feature tastings of 90 unique casks from 90 guest brewers nationwide, as well as food from local vendors and the presentation of Judges Panel and People’s Choice Awards. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Georgia Conservancy.

Cask ale, also known as cask-conditioned beer, is the term for unfiltered and unpasteurized beer that is conditioned (including secondary fermentation) and served from a cask without additional nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure.

“To say that it took over 12,000 years to brew this beer may smack of hyperbole but it’s an accurate statement,” said Schenck. “The smoky flavor comes from Highland Park 18 which got its flavor from peat that formed after the last Ice Age. Chipping a Four Roses barrel, soaking chips in the Highland Park 18 and maturating Sweetwater’s Irish stout with the soaked chips takes a great beer and makes it a wonderful smoked stout.”
