Topping out Ceremony for New Building Held Jan. 27

Raleigh, N.C. – Representatives from RN Rouse, a leader in commercial construction services in North Carolina, were on hand today to help construction crews, managers and employees of Biogen Idec celebrate the “topping out” of its new 190,000-square-foot office and amenities building. RN Rouse serves as the Construction Management Company for this facility that will serve as the “front door” on Biogen Idec’s 178-care campus in Research Triangle Park (RTP).

Topping out ceremonies originated in Europe and typically signify the construction milestone of placing the last beam on top of a building. It’s not uncommon for the beam to be signed by construction workers before being hoisted into place and secured. For this project, the beam was also placed on display for local Biogen Idec employees to sign.

The new building – known as Bio26 and designed to meet LEED building standards – is on schedule to open this fall and will contain an amenities wing and five-story office wing. Bio26 will allow Biogen Idec to return its patient services unit to its RTP campus and to expand lab space in existing buildings needed to support increased manufacturing activity.

“We congratulate Biogen Idec on reaching this construction milestone on the Bio26 building,” said Ray Rouse, RN Rouse vice chairman. “We’re proud to be associated with such an innovative company known for its world-class biologics manufacturing and customer service operations in North Carolina.”
