Chris Romick, executive director of SearStone, has announced that the continuing care retirement community has hired Nancy Broadwell, CSW, as social worker; Mark Freeman as director of security and transportation; and Fatima Smith, BSN, RN, as clinic manager. In addition, Aurora Oliveros, BSN, RN has been promoted to director of nursing.

Originally from West Virginia, Nancy Broadwell has been in Wake County since 1989 and currently resides with her family in Fuquay-Varina. Broadwell graduated from Meredith College with a degree in social work, and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She volunteers with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office’s Senior Wellcheck program, Alzheimers North Carolina, the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce, and the Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Advisory Board.

Mark Freeman has worked many interesting jobs throughout his career, including master presentation art and commercial framer (responsible for framing and presenting the works of famous photographers and artists throughout New York City), restaurant and bar owner, and regional account manager for U.S. Security and Associates. Originally from New York, he made the move to North Carolina in 2012. When not hard at work, he enjoys playing racquetball and golf, and spending time with his wife, six children and two grandchildren.

Fatima Smith has experience in home health, pediatric, emergency, gerontology, long-term, hospice, and acute care settings. She received her nursing degree from Hampton University in 2008. Smith relocated to North Carolina eight years ago and enjoys quality time with family, traveling and entertaining guests.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Aurora Oliveros trained as an ER and OR nurse in that country. In 2006, she “discovered her passion” while working in geriatrics as a floor nurse at Abbington Rehab in Chicago. From then on, she has worked with seniors in varying roles: health care coordinator at Sunrise Senior Living, triage nurse at American Healthways, nursing supervisor at Springmoor, and most recently, clinic RN manager at SearStone.

“SearStone has experienced tremendous growth since welcoming our first residents in November of 2013,” said Romick. “We continue to seek out, hire and promote exceptional individuals committed to giving our residents the best service possible.”
