Survivors and Supporters Make the 2016 Komen Race for the Cure a Big Success

Wake Radiology, the Triangle’s leading provider of outpatient medical imaging, extends a big thank you to all of the survivors and supporters who helped make last weekend’s Komen Triangle Race of the Cure a resounding success.

A bright sunny day greeted race-goers at The Frontier, the race’s new location in Research Triangle Park. More than 8,000 people participated in the event.

“Year after year, we’re impressed with the passion, grit, grace and community that makes up our local Komen event,” said Dr. Lyndon Jordan, President and Managing Partner at Wake Radiology. “We were humbled by the number of patients and community friends we saw and for those who shared kind words about how our own healthcare team has been part of their fight against breast cancer.

This year, Wake Radiology was proud to be the official sponsor of the 385 teams who participated in the event. At the race event, we happily gave away more than 5,000 cell phone lanyards that proved to be extra handy on the race course. And, we also encouraged women to tell us why – and for who! – they get their annual mammograms. We were overwhelmed by their candid responses.

Many of the Komen participants asked about the difference between 3D mammography and traditional screening exams.

Our team explained that 3D mammograms:

- Offer greater visualization of breast tissue than traditional 2D.

- Provide greater accuracy for earlier and easier detection of breast cancer

- Mean fewer callbacks

Like at Komen, it’s not too late to tell us why you have your annual screening mammogram. Just use #imammofor to share your story. Pictures from the Komen event are available on our website.
