Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative (JAI) continues its highly acclaimed monthly series – The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater – now on the third Friday of the month with two shows at 6:00PM and 8:15PM in The Stage Door Theater, part of Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, at the corner of 5th and College in Uptown Charlotte.

The winter season kicks off on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 with Shannon Hoover performing the music of Paul Chambers—the man Herbie Hancock once called “a great genius of the bass.” After many years playing with the Miles Davis Quintet, Chambers released several albums as the leader of his own band and became famous for his unique bowed bass solos. He stands today as one of the most gifted and celebrated jazz bassists.

On Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, Jeremy Davenport will pay tribute to the legendary Frank Sinatra and on Friday, March 20, 2015, pianist Charles Craig performs the music of Oscar Peterson.

“We will definitely be warming up those cold winter nights with some of Charlotte’s finest live jazz,” says Lonnie Davis, president and CEO of JAI. “Having two shows means even more people can enjoy these outstanding performances that continue to blow our audiences away.”

The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater spotlights the Charlotte region’s most gifted musicians recreating the sounds of the biggest names in jazz in a casual, intimate setting with tables and a full bar. Limited tickets are only $12 and can be purchased at www.carolinatix.org, by calling 704-372-1000, or $15 at the door if available. Jazz Room memberships are also available. The public is advised to purchase tickets early as these shows tend to sell out quickly.
