Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced the lineup for this year’s Main Event concert on May 14 at Red Hat Amphitheater. Progressive bluegrass band Trampled By Turtles will headline the show, joined by the Americana band The Devil Makes Three. All proceeds from the event will benefit the 2016 Band Together/Kidznotes partnership.

Trampled By Turtles, formed in 2003 in Duluth, Minnesota, is a veteran of festivals like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Newport Folk Festival, and even Coachella. They have seven studio albums, three of which maintained spots within the Billboard bluegrass top ten including 2010’s Palomino, which was among the top ten for 52 straight weeks. The release of 2012’s Stars And Satellites saw the band play to more fans than ever, sell close to 100,000 albums, make their first national television appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, and have their first concert feature, Live at First Avenue, broadcast on Palladia.

Their most recent album, Wild Animals, is their seventh studio album, and among their concerts in 2016, Trampled By Turtles will once again headline Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado in addition to holding their second annual Festival Palomino this fall.

The Devil Makes Three released their first album in 2002 and, of their four studio albums, three have cracked the Billboard bluegrass top ten including 2009’s Do Wrong Right which reached number one. Self-described as having “a slightly punky perspective on vintage American blues,” the group blends bluegrass, old time, country, folk, blues, jazz, ragtime, and rockabilly music. Since 2002, The Devil Makes Three has played nationwide to capacity crowds whose enthusiastic support has guaranteed the band a sizable and loyal following.

Also appearing at the May 14 Main Event will be the winner of the 2016 Last Band Standing, Band Together’s sixth annual band competition that will be held April 16 at Lincoln Theatre. As a special treat to concertgoers, a selection of students participating in Kidznotes, Band Together’s 2016 nonprofit partner, will perform during the Main Event.

This year, through community support and corporate and individual donations, Band Together and Kidznotes aim to raise $1 million. Proceeds raised during the 2016 partnership year will be used to expand the number of students served by Kidznotes in Durham and Raleigh to 600 by the 2016-17 school year – an addition of 290 students over two years to Kidznotes’ current roster of 310. Kidznotes’ strategic plan and vision includes serving 1,000 students throughout ten schools in Durham and Raleigh by 2020.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, Feb. 19 through E-tix.
