Reach Program Will Bring Camp-Like Activities to Residents

Victory Junction, a year-round camping environment for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses, has partnered with Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill to provide camp-like activities to residents and their families once a month.

Through Victory Junction’s Reach program, in partnership with the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, a team of volunteers and staff will bring the magic of camp activities to RMH Chapel Hill every third Thursday of the month. Typical activities include arts and crafts, storytelling and singing around a fake campfire, indoor sporting activities like archery and bowling, painting, woodworking, songwriting, tie-dying, puppetry, games and more.

Victory Junction believes that every child, no matter their illness or disability, deserves the chance to be a kid and enjoy experiences like every other child. The Reach program allows the organization to enhance and support existing patient- and family-centered care through a hands-on approach by bringing camp-style experiences to bedsides, playrooms and Ronald McDonald Houses across the state.

“A partnership with Victory Junction provides families staying here with regularly scheduled fun experiences without having to leave the House,” said Kim Lovrich, family services program coordinator at RMH Chapel Hill. “This opportunity comes at a time for these children and families when actually going to camp is not an option, so Victory Junction brings the camp to them. We are very excited to welcome Victory Junction into the House and to provide this unique opportunity to the families we serve.”
