Wake Radiology Asks Local Women to Make a Pinky Promise Pledge

Bookmark and Share Raleigh, NC - October 04, 2016 -

Wake Radiology, the Triangle’s leading provider of outpatient medical imaging, is asking area women to “use the power of the pinky” to promote early detection as part of a month-long focus on breast cancer. This is the second year that the practice has developed a comprehensive education campaign around Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Surprisingly, nearly a third of American women do not get annual screening mammograms even though mammography is the single best tool for detecting breast cancer. To increase awareness, Wake Radiology is asking area women to make a “pinky promise pledge” with someone they care about that they will receive a this potentially life-saving screening within the next 12 months.

To entice “pinky promise” participation, the practice is holding a drawing among all women who make the pledge and will give away a pink leather Michael Kors handbag (estimated $298 value) at the end of October. All women have to do enter is to make their pinky promise on the Wake Radiology website or tag themselves making the promise on Facebook using #WakeRadGoesPink.

“Making a pinky promising is a fun way to talk about a very serious subject,” says Dr. Susan Kennedy, breast imaging radiologist at Wake Radiology. “We can’t stress enough about how important it is for women to think about their breast health and receive yearly mammograms starting at the age of 40. We hope making a promise with a sister, a friend, a spouse, really anyone they care about will help hold women accountable to take the time to get screened.”

During October, Wake Radiology will also install its tenth Hologic Genius™ 3D mammography unit extending its commitment to bringing this revolutionary breakthrough in breast imaging technology to women across the Triangle. The practice’s commitment to early detection is why it’s working so hard to promote this significant advance in mammography and share information about the benefits of routine screenings.

The practice is promoting the Pinky Promise Pledge and the drawing for the handbag through October 31, 2016.
