William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu/), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce that its women's basketball team will host the annual Jackie Ammons Memorial Basketball Tournament this weekend, Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, in the Hermann Athletic Center located at 15 East Peace Street. The tournament is named in honor of Jackie Ammons '79, an Alumna and former Peace basketball star who died in a car crash just days prior to her graduation from Peace.

The two-day, four-team event is in its 15th year, and often attracts schools from around the country. This year’s installment will feature Southern Virginia University, Randolph College, and Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The tournament provides a few early contests on the hardwood for each team, but also an opportunity for away teams to visit Tobacco Road, an area deeply engrained in the history of college basketball.

"It's always a great kick-off to the season, and we couldn't be more appreciative of everything the Ammons family does to help make the tournament such a success," said WPU Athletics Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach Kelly Johnson. "Our staff does a great job with it, and the Ammons family takes great pride in it. They have been incredibly supportive of the school and the basketball program the last 15 years."

Southern Virginia and Randolph tip off Friday at 6:00 p.m., while the Pacers take on the Mid-Atlantic Christian in their opening round game at 8:00 p.m. Saturday's consolation game will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by the championship game at 3:00 p.m.

Video Coverage and live stats will be available throughout the weekend with Mike Davis returning to the airwaves for the Pacers Basketball Network. For more details on that, visit: http://gopeacepacers.org/landing/index.
