Asheville Nonprofit Expands Resiliency Education In WNC Amid State-wide Recovery Efforts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 1, 2025 -- ASHEVILLE, NC. Resources For Resilience (RFR), an Asheville-based nonprofit, has launched a major expansion of resiliency programming across 25 Hurricane Helene-impacted counties in Western North Carolina. This effort is made possible through nearly $3 million in funding from strategic partners including the NC General Assembly, NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), Governor’s Recovery Office for Western NC (GROW-NC), Vaya Health, Americares, Direct Relief, and the Evergreen Foundation.

With this support, RFR is delivering hundreds of free trauma-informed trainings, professional development workshops, and community events throughout the year. In the past year alone, more than 4,200 individuals have participated in programming designed to support healing and recovery.

“Resources For Resilience is proud to support the helpers and heroes who’ve been pivotal to Western North Carolina’s recovery after Helene,” said Ann DuPre Rogers, Executive Director. “Thanks to our generous partners, we’re expanding our reach and ensuring all frontline and essential workers have access to the tools they need to thrive.”

To support this growth, RFR has hired new staff and consultants, launched an updated website, and will even be hosting an inaugural professional development event later this year for resiliency educators.

Resources For Resilience also continues to offer free trauma-informed programming to local residents, agencies, and organizations. These sessions are specifically targeted to first responders, behavioral and public health providers, utility and communications professionals, and other essential service workers in rural and underserved counties to help them reduce occupational burnout and regulate their nervous systems under stress.

FREE Recurring Virtual Events for WNC Residents Impacted By Helene:

• Wednesdays | 12–1pm: Community Listening Circles – Practice tools to reset the nervous system

• Thursdays | 12–1pm: Reconnecting Through Hard Times Training – Learn tools to help others de-stress

• First Fridays | 12–1pm: Reconnect for Better Days Training – Learn tools to help yourself de-stress
